Conference Room

“Whatever you do work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord, not for men.” Colossians 3:23.  This verse was in many of the hearts of the volunteers who gave so much time, energy, and money to this project.  This 120 year old house sits next to St. Michael’s church in Hicksville and was worth every effort to transform it into a new office for the church.

The walls were decked out in 90’s wallpaper, which had been mostly removed before I came in.  The wiring had already been changed by one of the church parishioners.  This room only needed drywall work, paint, floors refinished, and a fireplace makeover.

Since 12 people make up the church committee, I decided that this room should have a table that seated 12.  Instead of using a regular dining table that that church had in possession, I built a 9′ x 4’6″ table with an oak top and we purchased 12 conference table chairs.

The fireplace needed updated.  I chose to create a grid pattern with 1×4’s to mimic the woodwork detail in other areas of the home.  But instead of going to the expense of oak, I broke up the wood tones with paint grade.

I chose trendy white marble mosaics to face the fireplace front and changed the floor tile to slate.

The doors were all in perfect working condition when the house was purchased and surprising still functioned when the job was finished! This glass wall of doors is perfect for a conference room wall!

The original hardwood floors hiding under the carpet needed no repairs.  A long weekend of tearing out carpet, pad, and staples by the Knights and their families and a long, tedious day of sanding from my husband brought out the original beauty in these oak floors.

  1. Love how you redid the fireplace and so glad you didn’t paint over that beautiful wood work. The table turned out beautiful.
